Code of Practice

1. Each member, upon signing an application for membership or renewal of the membership of The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Inc., and being duly elected to general membership of the club, shall, in addition to agreeing, to be bound be bound by the Code of Ethics of The Royal NSW Canine Council and also bound by The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Inc. Code of Practice. The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Inc Code of Practice includes items specific to this breed only and is in addition to the Code of Ethics of the Royal NSW Canine Council.
2. General /Health: I shall ensure that at all times all dogs under my control are properly housed, fed, watered, exercised and receive proper veterinary attention, if and when required.
3. I shall not allow any dogs under my care to roam at large and when away from home ensure that they are kept fully leashed, or under effective control at all times.
4. Breeding:
• A member shall breed only with the intent of maintaining and or improving the breed standard.
• As an owner of a stud dog I must use discretion in the contracting the services of my dog, and I will also ascertain that the owner of the bitch has the facilities and knowledge to care fro the puppies for up to 3 months of age.
• I shall not breed from any bitch before it is 18 months of age or 3rd season, and thereafter not more than one in each succeeding period of 12 months provided, however that should it be necessary through extenuating circumstances to breed from a bitch twice within 12 months, I shall rest the bitch on the 3rd season. After a bitch is 5 years of age I will seek veterinary advice regarding her health for breeding.
• I shall keep accurate breeding records of matings and pedigrees.
• I shall not intentionally permit any of my pure bred dogs to be mated to a dog of a different breed, a cross bred dog, or an unregistered dog of the same breed.
• I shall ensure that all breeding stock is in good health physically, temperamentally sound, and free from major faults and communicable diseases.
• The Club strongly recommends puppies with Dermoid Sinus or any other serious genetic defect are not used in a breeding program.
5. Advertising/Selling: I shall not sell or otherwise transfer from my care any puppy under 8 weeks of age, thus allowing for vaccination to be given at 6 weeks of age, and the necessary 10/14 days for the vaccination to take effect.
6. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers ,retail pet dealers, or directly allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest of any kind.
7. I shall furnish to the buyer a Pedigree, vaccination certificate, a record of worming, a feeding chart, and as much knowledge as possible concerning care, stages of Rhodesian Ridgeback growth and all dietary requirements.
8. A Member shall ensure that all persons acquiring dogs from a member clearly understand their responsibility for the care and welfare of the animal and that they have time and facilities, such as adequate fences, sufficient room and proper shelter, to fulfill their obligations.
